CRIT ON 3 POSTERS

As I have missed the crit and in order to catch up on that, I chatted with my friends about my 15 initial ideas. I picked those I thought could be further developed and they really like my ideas. They gave me some suggestions on them.

1. IMAGE ONLY
They really liked the crouching man one. The original idea was a man crouching on the whole canvas and the canvas will be acting like a limited space for living. After the discussion, it was suggested to place the man crouching at the corner of the canvas and have it sp tiny that people will have to walk near to the poster in order to see it clearly.

Another idea was using the sky fragments idea. It was suggested that i order to simplify the idea, instead of making a puzzle out of the cropped skies, I should only use one cropped sky. The image will be a small one and lying right at the centre of the canvas to exaggerate the phenomenon that the horizon is being cropped by cramped buildings.

2. TEXT ONLY
The original idea was placing an article about housing shortage in Hong Kong inside a small box and place the box at the centre of the canvas to show how concentrated people are in the narrow space of housings in Hong Kong. The words will be with only little spacings to show how cramped they are. One of the friends suggestions is instead of using an article, I can actually use the chinese word "缺" which means "lacking/ shortage". I can place the word inside the box and have the box cropping the edges of the word off to show that the place is too small to hold people.

---
After chatting with another friend, we have thought of a new idea of using the chinese word home/house "家" and people/ humans"人" to create a new chinese word. I will extract some elements of the word "家" and combine it with the word "人" to create a new word which represents a house that houses a lot of people.
As the origin of Chinese words are created from the shapes of different objects, most of them can be read separately using some of the elements of a character. The upper component of the word 家 do actually looks like a shelter, which is another interpretation of a house. I thought that I could do something with the upper part of the character and add the 人 under the shelter and the number of 人s will represent the number of family members living under the shelter/ in the home.

EXAMPLE
a shelter with only one person:
a shelter housing a crowd of people. I made it look like a box to strengthen the idea of many people cramping in one limited space/home/room.

3. TEXT AND IMAGE
Because of the housing shortage problem, housings became a lot more expensive and unaffordable. Another idea was having some standing boxes and photoshop some expensive brands onto them to make them look like some high fashion brands packagings.
