YOUR OWN IDEA(S)
Create a machine to make a typeface
-       Dictionary definition of MACHINE
-       Synonyms
-       Antonyms
-       Research into other kinds of machines or artists/ desiginers/ etc.

1.    What kind of ‘machines’ will my work be?
(stencil, modular typeface, game, KIT, etc.)

2.    How will you produce ypur final outcome?
(laser cut, vinyl, using ready-made objects – needs to be REAL)

3.    What could the typeface for?

(branding, editorial (heading), signage, wayfinding, supergraphics (on walls?), educational (toy?), online editorial (animates)

NOTES:
Fit in into a grid
Regular, irregular
Stencil
Shadow
Typeface capital letters
Overlay (tracing papers)
Connect shapes tgt
Number of overlays, … (rules)
Larger elements, smaller elements
Always on the left hand side?

THINKING PROCESS:
Use diagonals
Join them tgt with straight lines
Turns out looking like rhombuses
Rhombus? Connect rhombuses tgt

X3
Trapeziums

Created two different Cs
Decided to set more ruled in order to make the process smoother
àTriangles ONLY FOR SMALL STROKES / EYES

A= flipped C
Therefore I decided to add something into the A to make all letters look different

B somehow looks like an F
B= extended F

Put two trapeziums tgt as the base
= AT LEAST 2 TRAPEZIUMS
à5 units

THE ANGULAR TYPEFACE:

this typeface is inspired by the outcome of Task1. I used diagonals from the angles of each letter and connected them together. They ended up look like rhombuses, triangles and trapeziums putting together. Therefore, I made stencils out of card paper and cut out trapeziums and rhombuses.

Stuck with O, Q and S as they are circular and rounded alphabets. They do not really go well with the angular font.

After a few attempts, the following are the best O,Q,S that I made.

new ideas:
Thinking of using a KIT. Im gonna go to the laser printing workshop on 14/11 to make a stencil of rhombuses, trapeziums and triangles. I will put the stencil into the kit and will put a few of the shapes above into the kit. I will also print the instructions of how to use the kit on the box that is holding the materials.

make it 3d?
