SB1 DESIGN FOR PRINT (30/09- 01/11)
- produce a bound publication based on the specific place (summer brief)
- identify some themes on the place
- individual concept for the publication
- write our own brief on what publication we are gonna make
- content n context
BRIEF SHEET --> estudio
- brief title/ working title (can change it later)
- short description of the publication (was the purpose)
- target audience
- references (other books)
- positioning (shop, gallery, cafe?)
- price point (free? production costs? profits?)
- format/ production considerations
*critical detail!!*
- reflect on research gathered --> potential avenues for your publication
- translating concepts n ideas --> form n production
(layouts, ways of seeing texts, thickness, experience of the readers )
PRODUCTION METHODS RELATE TO THE CONCEPT!!
- pick out key themes, ideas form the description of the place
- context (how you photograph your book) , how you communicate
A BOOK IS A PHYSICAL EXPERIENCE = MAKE AN EXPERIENCE FOR SB
- make bespoke book!!
- not just guide books!!
- explore a range on print production techniques and processes
--> make it more individual to your brief
DO:
- ongoing research --> look for inspirations and visit book shops
- pull ideas from different books that are not related to your theme
- consider ambition vs practically (make it simple, done to a high standard)
- experiments, developments, prototypes
- type layouts
- rephotograph? scan some other materials? (how you present the content?)
considerations:
- stock
- production methods
- commercial considerations (eg. if it is mass produced, I'd use this production method)
