12MARCH
- charlie and leon showed their work on typeface to Ben and Ben thought that they were a bit hard to read
- leon thought that we could make two sets of typeface, one for all the designs(could be less legible) and another for the context (more legible, but applying the same rules)
- i showed ben what i did and he thought that they could be used as the typeface for the exhibition
- the group agreed to go for the typeface that i did and charlie and leon who were responsible for the typeface role helped out to finish all of the letters, applying the rule of my typeface
- rule: chop letters off in 6x6 grid, shift each block to the right (BLOD HELVETICA in 1160.12 pt)
- ben suggested to do an inverted version
Honestly, I felt quite bad in the beginning as I should be the one who is responsible for the posters and vinyl part, the work that i did was supposed to be something to do with layouts of posters, however it was then being used as the typeface for the whole exhibition. I feel like I was doing Leon and Charlie's part and what I did had just made the concept of the group changed from having 'one part missing' to 'sliding to the right'.
HOW THE TYPEFACE WORKS (drew this to show charlie n leon how to make the typeface)
Fortunately, my group mates really liked the typeface that I did. Leon and Charlies was really nice and they helped out with finishing off the whole upper case typeface.
At first, it was hard for them to get what was going on with the rules that i set for the typeface, later on after showing them once how I did them, they soon became handy with it and having them helping out finishing the whole typeface was really efficient.

I then worked on the numbers and they all worked well. I also did what Ben suggested and inverted the bnw.
To start off, we all agreed on using primary colours for the whole theme. It would keep the design simple and sticking with the children theme which is related to puzzles.

For the logotype, Charlie did a strip version and a block version. We all agreed that they looked nice and that they would work out well on vinyl. However, the design that he did was using the name of the exhibition PUZZLED?. We thought that it would be better if we only use the ? for the logo instead of using the whole word spelled out. We were still not sure about that, probably would sort that tomorrow either by going in or by text.

For the rationale, we told Holly about all the stuff that we did yesterday and about the concepts and themes. Holly caught up with out work yesterday pretty quickly and she typed the rationale for us as we thought it would be the best for her to have a clearer on our theme. Leon helped out with the rationale and corrected some points that Holly wasn't sure of.
For the posters and vinyl part, I did two posters and showed the group.
Zoe showed hers and Han showed three and we all really liked Han's design. We were thinking of using all of our posters but making them look similar to each other so the three posters would turn out to be like a collection. Therefore, we applied what Han did to her posters, bitmapping. I bitmapped some elements of my poster and Zoe did the same.

Also, in order to have something get done physically and working off screens, Zoe put our designs on the photocopiers and photo copied them onto different colours papers. Zoe also suggested to make invitations for audiences to make the exhibition more complete. She suggested that the invitations could be one missing part of the posters. The missing part idea was actually our initial idea and I thought it would be cool if we used that and combine that idea with the sliding idea for the whole branding concept. She worked on the invitation designs and as the information of the exhibition has too much words, the designs looked really cramped, Zoe is going to work on that.
To prepare for screen printing of posters, Monica helped out with cleaning the screens today. With the screens ready tomorrow, we could expose them and try out different versions and colours of posters to see which works the best. To finish off the posters, we were thinking of coming in tomorrow to finish work off and decide on which screen printing outcome would work the best.
In the process of deigning the posters and playing around with the layouts today.
I feel like we should do something to do with the chopped off bits of the letters. They are really abstract shaped and I thought it'd be sound if we make use of them to create symbols or numbers to label each piece in the exhibition. Leon suggested that they could be used for the way finding signs. He found out that there are actually shapes that look really like arrows in the chopped off parts. We would be discussing more about that tomorrow and figure out the way finding designs.
