REFINEMENTS + PHYSICAL EXPERIMENTS

I am really happy that our group is actually working really well with each other. We came in today to get work done and we did a lot today. Monica did the screen printing part. The screens just wouldn't expose clearly and the screen printed posters failed. Me and Han went to help her out on printing them and they just didn't work. We might redo all the screens tomorrow.

We then went to digital print the posters out to look at them in size of A3. We chose royal gloss paper and it did not work as the paper was a bit yellowish and the design did not work well with the designs. Therefore, we booked digital print tomorrow to have the finalise posters get printed tomorrow.

For the poster design, I had two version of mine. One with blue text yellow question mark, another one with inverted colours. They all agreed to use the blue text version. Also, we realised that we need the name of the exhibition on the poster, therefore, I slightly changed the type layout of the poster and added the name at the bottom.

After printing stuff out and doing stuff physically, we thought that we need a meeting to get all of our ideas finalised and to sort out the room layout and vinyl idea. We went to the crit room and had a really effective discussion. To be honest I was really impressed by that as all of our group members were really into the project and would like to do our best in our roles.

In the discussion, Leon came up with the idea of layout the maps on the walls in form of a 6x6 grid and swapping the tiles each day in a different position  For the vinyl on the window, we are going to have small holes of the shapes extracted from the typeface on the vinyl being cut out. This is to have the audience peak into the small holes into the room and have them feel "puzzled" to match with the theme. The shapes will then be pasted on the ground to make them look like they are fallen off from the walls.

Also, for the labelling part, me and zoe thought that using the numbers would be fair enough. We will be using numbers in out typeface to label each map, with the student's name in helvetica next to the number.

When I was going to help out with the slides layout, I realised there was something wrong with the typeface tiff. Some of the letters are not following the rules correctly. I told Charlie and Leon about it and they tried so hard to refine them, however, it just did not seem to work. I tried to explain them on how the typeface was being created, they followed all the steps that I gave them, but it did not work out.

I did them all over again applying the right rules. I scaled down the size of the HELVETICA BOLD into 870pt from 1160.12pt so that the W would fit into the grid. The finalised full typeface was being refined and finally finished.

Tomorrow's plan
- digital print invitation and posters , maybe the logotype as well?
- turn the new finalised typeface into a tiff format for using them on slides
- instagram account layout refined
- crit on presentation slides within our group
- ill help out with the slides layout
