SCREENPRINTING DAY3

I went to the screenprinting room after signing in and it was so crowded in there. I did not get to use the screenprinting machines, and therefore, I took the portable ones. The machine was a bit offset and it affected the results. As the design on the acetate as well as the white sheet has to be on the exact right position in order to make the design work, the machine made it very hard to match on the right position. Every time, the print on the acetate was not matching on the right spot as the design on the white sheet. In order to minimize the error, I put tape on the machine as a measurement to set the acetate right on top of the white sheet. They were still a bit offset, but better than when there was no tape.

Boomerangs of the designs with no stickers put on yet

For the paint, as I have mentioned, the paint was drying out every time I finished one print and it really annoyed me. Today, I decided to mix more binder with the paint. I used up the remaining binder that I bought from the shop and mixed it with the paint that I used on yesterday. It turned out really well on the black paint. Although the paint still dried on the screen, it happened less frequently than yesterday. At least 5-6 printed could be produced before drying each time. In the other hand, for the white paint, the paint was a bit diluted and as the white paint as to go on black paper and acetate, it has to be concentrated enough to get solid colours. The white paint was a bit too dilute that it sometimes bled on the acetate and it look a bit watery on black paper, however, it was not that worse and I thought that the prints were still presentable.

The best outcomes that I made today!!:-)

For the paper stock, I tried on normal papers which I took from the studio, card papers that I bough from the library and acetate as well. On normal paper, the paint was being absorbed by it so quickly that the paint bled. It did not really work out well. Fortunately, it was only for testing, the final outcome would be on card papers to make it look like a postcard. On card paper, the design worked really well, as long as you do not go over it again and again like I did on the first day of screen printing, the design looked perfect screen printed. As on acetate, the paint was a bit transparent on it and when I go over few more times, the paint bled. I took a while to control the amount of paint and the times going over, it looked fine after a while of attempts.

Also, different variations were made to give an interesting outcome. I tried overlaying the same design a few times on the paper, it looked really interesting with the overlapping lines and gave a really messy aesthetic with a lot of lines tangling together. I also tried changing the direction of the design when I overlapped it, the result turned out not really visually pleasing, but it was worth trying out.
